Flowcrete has provided its unique and sustainable Floorzone Solution for a £27m new-build sporting development named “The Peak”, located in Stirling, Scotland.
The new complex represents the largest single phase sporting development in the Stirling area for more than 30 years. It features a nine-court sports hall; 25 metre, 6 lane swimming pool, six-sheet ice rink, health and fitness facilities and a 12 metre climbing wall plus café and licensed restaurant facilities. There are also plans for outdoor floodlit third generation (3G) football and rugby pitches plus a water-based hockey pitch.
Flowcrete was chosen for the project on account that it is the only company operating in the UK to offer the complete Floorzone Solution, which involves the installation of a self-levelling sub-floor screed combined with underfloor heating underneath a seamless and contemporary resin floor finish The Floorzone Solution builds up the surface of the floor from substrate to finish and comes complete with single-source responsibility.
The new facility opted for Flowcrete’s Isowarm Under Floor Heating and Isocrete K-Screed for use in the gymnasium, entrance reception and foyer areas as well as in the main village changing area, where the screed was laid to falls to eliminate ponding water – covering a total surface area of almost 3,000m2. Not only delivering heat where it is needed most - from the ground upwards - Isowarm offers a number of environmental benefits including energy savings of up to 30% compared to traditional central heating or air conditioning systems.
Work at the site also included the installation of 350m2 of Flowcrete’s fast track flooring concept, Flowfast Quartz, and its durable floor coating, Flowcoat SF41, across the main reception staircase and pool spectator areas.
“There are important sporting times ahead for both Scotland and the UK with the Olympics in 2012 and now the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and we must all play our part in allowing those with dreams to one day participate at that level to give it their best shot”
(Margaret Brisley, Stirling Provost)
