Flowcrete Powers Antistatic Flooring at Tridonic
A high technology flooring system from Flowcrete - offering exceptional antistatic performance coupled with ease of maintenance - has been applied at electrical manufacturer Tridonic.
More than 3,000 square metres of self-levelling Peran Electrostatic Dissipating Floor Finish have been applied at the state-of-the-art site, located in Spennymoor, Co Durham.
Tridonic manufacture lighting and associated equipment and needed a floor for the main production area capable of the highest conductivity levels – working to demanding technical requirements.
Leeds-based Flowcrete approved contractor Fresco Industrial were on site for six weeks undertaking the project, which involved the application of copper strips underneath the floor for high levels of antistatic performance.
The work involved a high design specification. Skill was needed in the application process, as well as functionality from the floor finish, to meet the electrical conductivity levels required exactly.
Peter Thorne, Tridonic’s Engineering Manager, said: “We evaluated the different options for conductive flooring, including vinyl, but went for Flowcrete’s seamless resin product due to maintenance factors.
“We need to clean floors on a regular basis and we have had antistatic vinyl flooring in the past, including tiles and on a roll, but have found that water gets underneath and lifts the flooring up. As a sealed, seamless surface, Peran ESD SL makes maintenance easier.”
Utilising the latest in resin technology, coupled with anti-static capabilities, Peran ESD SL is self smoothing, hard wearing, chemical resistant and easy to clean. It meets BS 2050 anti-static requirements, and is also non-tainting and non-dusting.
The system is specially formulated to disperse static electricity, which is ideal for electronic environments where sensitive components are handled or manufactured, or in clean room environments.
Peran ESD SL is also suitable for areas where gas, solvents and explosives are handled, and in areas where there is a risk of dust and explosions.
As well as Peran ESD SL, Fresco also installed Flowcrete’s Kristalina decorative commercial resin surface in the R&D area, and Flowfast Terrosso the two hour floor concept was installed in the changing rooms and toilet areas.
